Exterior updates are primarily cosmetic, with changes to the grille and front driving lights, loss of black cladding along the lower doorsills, and minor changes to the exhaust tips and taillights. In February 2013, Volvo debuted a refreshed version of the XC60, to be released for the 2014 model year. In April 2010, an R-Design variant of the XC60 became available, featuring a colour-matching body kit, stiffer chassis and damping, and other unique exterior/interior trim. Much of the engineering and tuning of this CUV was done by Volvo in Sweden, although offroad capabilities were developed at Land Rover in England. At the time of development, both Land Rover and Volvo were owned by Ford and development was split between the two subsidiaries. Manufactured by subsidiary Volvo Car Gent in Ghent, Belgium, the first generation XC60 is based on Volvo's P3 platform and the XC60 shares technology with the Land Rover Freelander of 2007. The XC60 has been Volvo's best selling car since 2009. Sales began in Europe in the third quarter of 2008 and in North America in early 2009 as a 2010 model. With just over 81,000 miles ( and lately in storage with eleven more cars as I now work remotely), the flickering headlamp issue has happened a few times, the CPS did fail about three miles from home and the 3.5 V6 has held up very well. The production vehicle was unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. ![]() JEFFSHADOW I still have the "USA OLDS" 2002 Intrigue GLS.I did search for it several years later and it was resold from a private dealer in GA (I was in FL) and it had several appearance changes so it still ran and changed hands at least a couple more times. Mine only lasted around 105k miles before the ac system seized and my mechanic buddy got it freed up enough for me to trade it in. "Remember When We Thought the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Was Fast?" I literally LOL'd. So I just googled this car with "0-60" and one of the articles popped up from the famous Doug Demuro. I thought it was very quick for it's time. I had this exact model and actually really enjoyed it. Julian DiDonato Crazy that it even lasted 200K miles. As we came around the corner, 3 abreast, I was in the front, if I remember correctly, and I saw the packed house cheering, 200,000 people, it was an incredible moment that I will never forget. It's sad to see one of these in such bad shape. As a prize, they let me drive a Red GTP along with 25 other GTP's and Black Trans Am-Ram Airs around the California Speedway just before the drivers came out for the inaugural race for the circuit. Bryan Karlan I worked at a Pontiac store at the time, selling cars, and I was top guy at the Anaheim store for 8 months straight. Then again, I'm a huge fan of the simplistic Lada Niva and its own mythos. Kwik_Shift I liked the Sportage when they first came out with that Third World country look of ruggedness, exploration and faithfulness. The brand that schlepped a thousand minimalists. Sure, there’s no surprise and delight, but c’mon, it’s a Volvo. The jaunty little LCD screen popping up from the top of the XC60’s dash is as cute as Wall-E’s itty bitty face. The controls are ergonomically sound and appropriately Ikea-like. The Volvo’s interior design is fastidious. XC60 buyers who share this desire will find it easy enough to generate the necessary suspension of disbelief to con themselves that they’re driving a premium product. It’s got that Land Rover take stuff anywhere thing happening, and mellifluously melds melted tail lamps with a roof spoiler and shark fin. The XC60’s rear is also particularly well wrought. ![]() The XC60’s profile is appropriately outdoorsy, in a diminutive but not dainty sort of way. Volvo gets credit for attaching a brand-faithful snout to a highly raked windshield without creating an acre of dashtop plastic or A pillars that could support Trump Tower.
